Search the Internet from the Start Menu

The start menu is convenient way to search the applications and programs through your system. But you can also have it do double-duty and perform Internet searches as well. To search internet right from the start menu follow these steps:

  • Click on Start > Run OR press Windows-key+R.
  • Type GPEDIT.MSC and press Enter to run the Group Policy Editor
  • Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
  • Double-click "Add Search Internet link to Start Menu"
  • from the Window that appears, select Enabled.
  • Then click OK and close the Group Policy Editor.
Now a "Search the Internet" link is shown when the user performs a search in the start menu search box. This button launches the default browser with the search terms.

If you disable this policy, there will not be a "Search the Internet" link when the user performs a search in the start menu search box.
If you do not configure this policy (default), there will not be a "Search the Internet" link on the start menu.

Similarly you can check out various other interesting Policies listed there!
